COMIC PREVIEW – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 47

On Wednesday, January 22nd, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 47 will be released from Boom Studios.  A couple weeks ago we posted a first look of this issue, now take a full look at the finished preview of the issue as well as the main cover and variants.

NECESSARY EVIL CONTINUES! After a shocking betrayal, the Omega Rangers are forced to return to earth—and to reveal their identities to the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. But can either team of Power Rangers survive the truth?

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“The war has begun and the march to the endgame of this chapter of Power Rangers is in full swing. With the revelation of the identity of the Omega Rangers, tensions are at their boiling point on both sides. And it’s justified, what would you do if a group of your friends have lied to you about what they were up to for months? If you felt like a temporary replacement? If a secret you struggled to keep is now affecting your friendships? This dramatic tension has been building from the start of Necessary Evil and now the real test of the Rangers’ friendship begins.

Writer Ryan Parrott has done a fantastic job of balancing this tension with the action of this issue. There are plenty of great character moments between characters that haven’t been together in awhile. Trini particularly stands out in this issue, trying to keep the peace between her friends and the Stone Canyon trio.

As for the artwork, artist Daniele di Nicuolo continues to capture the emotions of all of the characters in spectacular fashion. One of the greatest panels is in the preview below with the morphing sequence. It always amazes me how different artists tackle morphing in different layouts, especially with the colors on opposite sides of the panel from colorist Walter Baiamonte.

We are nearing the end of this almost year long arc and it will be very interesting to see where things stand at the end.”

COMIC PREVIEW – Go Go Power Rangers 27

This week (January 15th) Boom Studios releases Go Go Power Rangers Issue 27, the first of two GGPR issues coming out this month (Issue 28 releases on January 29th) and the second week of six straight weeks of Power Rangers comics.

NECESSARY EVIL CONTINUES! Trini and Zack meet the one person who can make them OMEGA RANGERS, but are warned about the consequences of joining Jason. At the Tower of Light, Tommy faces off against Lord Zedd, but without his powers will he be strong enough to stop him?

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“While there are still some surprises in this issue, almost half the book is filling in the gaps and retelling part of White Light. I appreciate when the comics tie into show continuity, but this issue did not make as strong an impact as past issues. Part of the reason for that is this issue feels like a winding down of the Necessary Evil story, and maybe Go Go Power Rangers as a whole. At this point, the mainline comic has informed enough about the arc to create a checklist of what now needs to happen in GGPR.

With events the events of Go Go Power Rangers moving ever closer to the start of Necessary Evil in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Issue 40, one has to wonder where the story will go when Necessary Evil concludes. As we approach milestone issues like GGPR 30 and MMPR 50 this year, the possibilities are wide open for dramatic shifts in story lines.

For Go Go Power Rangers it might be the opportunity to completely change direction. An anthology series perhaps? Or is there a possibility of this series ending? I hope not, because was Go Go does best is a take a more personal look into the Rangers’ lives and lately, make a stronger connection to events in the main comic.

Overall, in this issue, the dialogue and artwork continue to be the same great standard we’ve had throughout the run. In two weeks, we take a break from the main story and focus on Rita. What will her role in Necessary Evil be when she is still stuck in a space dumpster? We are definitely looking forward to that answer!”

COMIC PREVIEW – First Look at Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 46

Shocking Betrayal in MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #46

It’s Ranger VS Ranger in Newest Chapter of Necessary Evil in December 2019

LOS ANGELES, CA (December 10, 2019) – BOOM! Studios, under license by Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS), today revealed a new look at MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #46 by the all -star team of acclaimed writer Ryan Parrott (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenate Mutant Ninja Turtles), Shattered Grid artist Daniele di Nicuolo (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), colorist Walter Baiamonte (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), and letterer Ed Dukeshire (Angel), the essential next chapter in the epic POWER RANGERS event, Necessary Evil, arriving in December 2019.

The ALL NEW OMEGA RANGERS discover a shocking betrayal from one of their own! As Safe Haven turns into a RANGER VS RANGER battleground, not everyone will make it out alive.

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“The board is set, the pieces are in position. In the latest chapter of Necessary Evil, The Anointed makes their move against the Omega Rangers. No punches are pulled, literally.

Artist Daniele di Nicuolo continues the trend of fights drawn so well, you can feel every impact. Downward force punches never get old for me, and in this issue… there’s one that will have serious consequences for the next issue.

It’s not all kicking and punching though. Writer Ryan Parrott writes a fantastic scene with Tommy and Kimberly that deals with the building tensions between the Mighty Morphin’ team. Tommy has a lot to learn about being a leader, and it’s great to see this evolution of the character.

The ending of this issue will make you rethink what you might be guessing will happen in this arc, and that’s a good thing.”

MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #46 features a main cover by Jamal Campbell (Naomi), as well as a special foil variant of the iconic Helmet Covers featuring the Armored Red Ranger by fan favorite artist Goñi Montes (Sandman Universe), a collectible Trading Card variant cover by Kris Anka (Runaways) and designed by Dylan Todd. The MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #46 cover by Anka features the Red Omega Ranger, Jason Lee Scott, with an image of the Red Omega Ranger in action on the front, and stats on the back cover, including team name, alias, and biography.

The MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #46 Story variant cover depicts the next essential chapter in an eleven-part series written by writer Ryan Parrott and illustrated by acclaimed artist Dan Mora, following the enigmatic, all-knowing Emissaries as they travel space and time, unearthing never-before-seen details of the immediate aftermath of the explosive events of Shattered Grid and changing the course of MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS comic history forever.

Currently, POWER RANGERS is celebrating 26 continuous years on the air, making it one of the longest running kids’ live-action series in television history with nearly 900 episodes aired to date. COMIC PREVIEW – Go Go Power Rangers 26

Last week we gave you a first look at Go Go Power Rangers Issue 26. Below is the full preview of the issue as well as the main cover and variants.  Go Go Power Rangers Issue 26 will be released from Boom Studios next Wednesday, December 11th.

As Jason begins to form his new team—the Omega Rangers—he struggles to keep the truth from his friends, Trini and Zack. Meanwhile, on another planet, Tommy has reached the Tower of Light but is he truly worthy of becoming the White Ranger?!

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“Go Go Power Rangers has always been a comic about exploring the backstories of the characters and adding depth and context to events we think we might know from watching the show. This issue continues that trend in great spectacle and lore building.

As seen in the preview, we have a flashback from when Tommy was under Rita’s spell during Green With Evil. This event becomes a focal point for later in the issue, where Tommy’s motivations and character is being questioned.

Bouncing between GGPR and MMPR throughout Necessary Evil makes for interesting reading. We know that Tommy will become the White Ranger, but seeing the journey unfold is a great treat to read. Filling in the gaps in White Light is a brilliant move and makes Tommy’s rise to become the White Ranger more believable than just a power upgrade Zordon had in his back pocket.

This issues is not just focused on Tommy. Jason is confronted by Zack and Trini, continuing from last issue’s cliffhanger. The trust that the team has built on for a year is now on shaky ground. With Zack and Trini questioning Jason’s motives during battle, how can they function as a cohesive group?

Necessary Evil has been a fantastic ride so far. While Shattered Grid was amazing in cameos, great villains and story, Necessary Evil feels more introspective. The team dynamic is changing and I can’t wait to read how it unfolds.”

COMIC PREVIEW – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Issue 1

Today, Wednesday, December 4th,  Mighty Morphin Power Rangers / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Issue 1 has been released from Boom Studios. Below you will find a preview of the issue as well as the main cover and variants.

THE MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS AND THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES MEET FOR THE FIRST TIME!

The Power Rangers arrive in New York City to find Tommy Oliver – AKA The Mighty Morphin Green Ranger – but soon discover he’s joined forces with the villainous Shredder and the Foot Clan!

As the Rangers are sent reeling by this betrayal, they’re confronted by another (fr)enemy – the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Can these heroes find a way to work together to defeat the bad guys and save the world from total destruction?!

Written by Ryan Parrott (Power Rangers: Necessary Evil) and illustrated by Simone di Meo (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Venom Annual), the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fight – and maybe team up with – the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the first time in this over-sized issue includes 30 pages of story content!

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“Aside from Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, there was only one other franchise from my childhood that stuck with me through the years. That was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I wore TMNT t-shirts, played the games in the arcade, watched the original cartoon and begged my parents for the action figures.

When the MMPR/TMNT crossover was announced, I was excited for all of the possibilities that could come from a team up like this. Months after the initial announcement, the first issue has finally arrived. And what a fantastic first issue it is!

First, if you aren’t caught up on Go Go Power Rangers or Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, don’t worry. This is a standalone miniseries not tied into the ongoing series. Think of it as taking place during the first season of the show.

Second, if you’re not a big Turtles fan… don’t worry. With the first few pages you know the personalities and dynamics of both teams. The parallels of both teams fighting their respective enemy grunts is the perfect framing device for introductions. Writer Ryan Parrott brilliantly injects the signature humor and tone for both teams. Every character has their own unique voice and really shows how alike both teams are at their core.

Artist Simone Di Meo returns to Power Rangers comics following the uneven run in Beyond the Grid. For this issue, the art is very dramatic and fast paced. The action scenes have weight to them… you feel every blow. In my opinion one of the most gorgeous panels was the first morph of Tommy into the Green Ranger.

With plenty of self referential in-jokes and amazing action sequences, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Issue #1 is highly recommended for fans of either franchise. “

COMIC PREVIEW – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 45

On Wednesday, November 27th, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 45 will be released from Boom Studios. Below you will find a preview and review of the issue as well as the main cover and variants.

NECESSARY EVIL CONTINUES! The ALL NEW OMEGA RANGERS team up with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for the first time! But as they battle evil forces on the moon, it’s Jason—now the Red Omega Ranger—who must face Lord Zedd alone! No matter who wins, nothing will ever be the same for any Power Ranger…

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 45 feels like the start of the endgame for Necessary Evil. This issue eliminates one threat only to replace it with a potentially greater foe. And perhaps, that’s the whole point of the Power Rangers. There would be no need for them without the evils that are necessary for their existence.

The majority of this arc for both GGPR and MMPR gives us a deeper understanding to Jason, who increasingly realizes the weight of his leadership and consequences of his actions. Artist Daniele di Nicuolo executes that emotional weight on Jason’s face perfectly in this issue.

Without spoiling anything, there are a couple twists in this issue that surprised me, even though hints of what is to come have been shown in future solicitations. It will be very interesting to see how the events of this issue will change the landscape of the comic.”

COMIC PREVIEW – Go Go Power Rangers Issue 25

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 13th, Go Go Power Rangers Issue 25 will be released from Boom Studios. Below you will find a preview and review of the issue as well as the main cover and variants.

NECESSARY EVIL CONTINUES! The Secret Origin of the OMEGA RANGERS continues as Jason and the Blue Emissary search for new recruits to the ALL NEW POWER RANGER TEAM. But when Zordon and Alpha-5 go missing, Jason must choose what’s more important – his friends or protecting the universe from the fallout of SHATTERED GRID!

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“Go Go Power Rangers issue 25 starts off with Tommy Oliver after losing his Green Ranger powers. Earlier in this arc, he left the team to focus on being alone and trying to find his place. This event also happened in the show, and this issue specifically slots perfectly into the events leading up to and during ‘White Light’.

What’s great about this issue, and the Necessary Evil arc as a whole, is giving more context and background to what we have seen in the show. While the Boom! Studios comics are their own universe where events in the show still play out in a modern setting, it’s fun to imagine the events of the comic happening to the cast of the show. Want to know why Zordon and Alpha-5 initially disappeared during the events of  ‘White Light’? It’s explained with more detail in this issue.

I also enjoyed the small return of a familiar character that played an important role in Shattered Grid and less so in Beyond The Grid. It’s clear the writers are taking the opportunity to not only expand the lore of the show, but the comics as well. While readers can probably guess where the story is going because of ‘Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers’, I am sure there are surprises that will make us wonder what’s in store next for Necessary Evil.”

COMIC PREVIEW – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 44

This Wednesday, October 30th, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 44 will be released from Boom Studios. Below you will find a preview of the issue as well as the main cover and variants.

NECESSARY EVIL continues as the Omega Rangers return to Earth and meet the Power Rangers for the first time! But if they want to defeat Lord Zedd together, Jason, Trini and Zack will have to keep their identities a secret from their friends! Features the first appearance of the Omega Ranger Zords!

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 44 kicks into high gear when the Omega Rangers come to the rescue of the Power Rangers of Earth. The tables are quickly turned on Dayne in one of the most intense Zord sequences of the comic to date.

While we don’t have a concrete end time for the conclusion of this arc, it seems we are starting to reach the climax of Necessary Evil. With the Omega Rangers meeting the Earth team for the first time, the mystery still remains on their identities. Tensions arise on both Ranger Teams that will have long lasting impacts for the rest of the arc.

The writing is, as always, tight from Ryan Parrott with more snappy dialogue and in-jokes. The art is very kinetic and detailed, as always, and we can’t get enough of Daniele Di Nicuolo’s style. Particularly in this issue, Walter Baiamonte’s colors shine… literally with brilliant lens flares on Earth to the dark and cooler tones of space and the moon.

The conclusion sets up a battle that, personally, I have been waiting for.”
