COMIC PREVIEW – Go Go Power Rangers 27

This week (January 15th) Boom Studios releases Go Go Power Rangers Issue 27, the first of two GGPR issues coming out this month (Issue 28 releases on January 29th) and the second week of six straight weeks of Power Rangers comics.

NECESSARY EVIL CONTINUES! Trini and Zack meet the one person who can make them OMEGA RANGERS, but are warned about the consequences of joining Jason. At the Tower of Light, Tommy faces off against Lord Zedd, but without his powers will he be strong enough to stop him?

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“While there are still some surprises in this issue, almost half the book is filling in the gaps and retelling part of White Light. I appreciate when the comics tie into show continuity, but this issue did not make as strong an impact as past issues. Part of the reason for that is this issue feels like a winding down of the Necessary Evil story, and maybe Go Go Power Rangers as a whole. At this point, the mainline comic has informed enough about the arc to create a checklist of what now needs to happen in GGPR.

With events the events of Go Go Power Rangers moving ever closer to the start of Necessary Evil in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers Issue 40, one has to wonder where the story will go when Necessary Evil concludes. As we approach milestone issues like GGPR 30 and MMPR 50 this year, the possibilities are wide open for dramatic shifts in story lines.

For Go Go Power Rangers it might be the opportunity to completely change direction. An anthology series perhaps? Or is there a possibility of this series ending? I hope not, because was Go Go does best is a take a more personal look into the Rangers’ lives and lately, make a stronger connection to events in the main comic.

Overall, in this issue, the dialogue and artwork continue to be the same great standard we’ve had throughout the run. In two weeks, we take a break from the main story and focus on Rita. What will her role in Necessary Evil be when she is still stuck in a space dumpster? We are definitely looking forward to that answer!”
