NEWS – Power Rangers: Sins of the Future – Time Force Graphic Novel

Future of the Time Force Revealed in New Original Graphic Novel POWER RANGERS: SINS OF THE FUTURE

Discover a Love That Crosses All of Time and Space in a New Power Rangers Graphic Novel in October 2020

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 27, 2020) – BOOM! Studios, under license by Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS), today announced an original graphic novel POWER RANGERS: SINS OF THE FUTURE, with story by Trey Moore (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), written by Matthew Erman (Bonding), illustrated by Giuseppe Cafaro (Saban’s Power Rangers: Soul of The Dragon), and lettered by Ed Dukeshire. This all-new graphic novel, available in October 2020, features two of the most popular Rangers of all time and what happens to them after the events of the hit Power Rangers: Time Force television series!

After defeating the villainous Ransik alongside their allies in the time-traveling Time Force, Pink Ranger Jen Scotts and Red Ranger Wes Collins want to try for a real relationship. But without sacrificing their commitments to the Silver Guardians and Time Force, can the two actually make the ultimate long-distance relationship work?

When Jen returns from the future, she and Wes are attacked by a mysterious stranger who has dire news – if these two stay together, they’ll disrupt the timeline and change the destiny of humanity! The shocking identity of their accuser sets them on a collision course with an enemy they never expected.

Matthew Erman is a comics writer from Columbus, Ohio. Alongside Lisa Sterle, he co-created the critically acclaimed comic horror series, Long Lost, which was optioned for Film/TV by Producer Jenny Klein (The Witcher, Daisy Jones and The Six). Since then, he’s worked with IDW on a new Care Bears: Unlock the Magic series as well as Vault Comics on his upcoming original graphic novel Bonding, with artist and co-creator Emily Pearson. His short work can be found in anthologies such as Corpus (2018), Dead Beats (2019), and Everything is Going Wrong (2019).

“I was once six years old eating malted milk-balls in my pj’s, glued to the television, exclusively watching Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. 25 years later, I’m actually writing Power Rangers, and it is bonkers: a literal dream come true. POWER RANGERS: SINS OF THE FUTURE is the story that my six year old self would have wanted to write,” said writer Matthew Erman. “Jen Scotts of Power Rangers Time Force takes center stage in this story, and she’s such a deep, interesting character with so much to pull from that writing her and other characters from Time Force has been a real gift. It’s been so wild to play in this sandbox and easy to see why it’s regarded by fans as some of the best the franchise has to offer. I can’t wait for everyone to read this!”

Giuseppe Cafaro is an Italian comic book artist who has worked in the industry since 2010 to great acclaim. Cafaro has been the artist for titles such as Catwoman, Suicide Squad, and Superman/Wonder Woman for DC Comics, Fathom and Soulfire for Aspen Comics, and Power Rangers: The Psycho Path,  Power Rangers: Soul of the Dragon and Firefly: Bad Company for BOOM! Studios.

“I’m extremely honored to be the artist for a new Power Rangers graphic novel,” said artist Giuseppe Cafaro. “BOOM! Studios is doing a huge and amazing job on every single book of the Power Rangers and I’m sure SINS OF THE FUTURE will be even more fun and intense than ever before!”

Currently, Power Rangers is celebrating 26 continuous years on the air, making it one of the longest running kids’ live-action series in television history with nearly 900 episodes aired to date. Created by Haim Saban and launched in 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the franchise celebrates its milestone anniversary year with the 26th season, “Power Rangers Beast Morphers” currently airing on Saturdays at 8 a.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon in the U.S.

POWER RANGERS: SINS OF THE FUTURE reunites two fan favorites in a love that crosses all of time and space while threatening the very fabric of the universe. For the first time ever, fans will find out what happened to Jen and Wes in this new original graphic novel” said Dafna Pleban, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios. “And just when you think the Rangers will find their happily ever after, a new threat arises that could end not only their romance but also their realities. It doesn’t get more epic than this!”

Print copies of POWER RANGERS: SINS OF THE FUTURE will be available in October 2020 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one), or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. COMIC PREVIEW – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 48

On Wednesday, February 26th, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 48 will be released from Boom Studios.

After the shocking reveal of the last issue, the Rangers are beset by enemies on all sides—even their own. Tensions mount between Tommy and Jason in the fallout over the Omega Rangers secret identities. Will the two teams be able to work together in time to defend against the next attack? Don’t miss the return of a fan favorite character!

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“Only a couple of months and a handful of issues remain before Necessary Evil ends. It’s no surprise by now who returns this issue, especially with the cover of this issue and the Ranger Slayer getting her own one shot in June. What is surprising is that this reveal isn’t even the biggest shock.

For readers who might have thought that Beyond the Grid was not what they wanted or liked, issue 48 starts to connect that narrative and universe with this one. There are revelations that will keep you thinking about the possibilities as you are reading.

There is a lot packed into the comic, but none of it feels bloated or pressed for space. There are two sets of character pairings that make you feel the emotional impact of tearing a team apart, and trying to live up to expectations. This is highly recommended reading, but I seem to say that for every issue. Guess I’m along for the ride!”

COMIC PREVIEW – Go Go Power Rangers 29

On February 12th, Boom Studios releases Go Go Power Rangers Issue 29.

Tommy steps into his new role as leader of the Power Rangers, but not everyone is convinced he’ll be able to lead like Jason did. Meanwhile, Zack, Trini, and Jason are given their first mission as OMEGA RANGERS, and must trust that their friends will be able to handle all of Lord Zedd‘s threats without them.

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“Necessary Evil continues as this comic nears its conclusion and catch up to MMPR issue 40. While we know where the story needs to go, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some surprises in this issue. Without giving too much away, Lord Zedd’s plan is unexpected and will give readers more to think about the role of certain elements only introduced in the comics.

I was also pleasantly surprised that this issue revisited a personal plotline with one of the Rangers. It was stories like this that make Go Go a standout of the Power Rangers comic series, and one that I hope continues in the main comic after Necessary Evil. We don’t always need a big event to tell compelling stories.

After Necessary Evil ends, I look forward to reading the event in chronological order. Go Go has done a great job of filling in the missing pieces of the event while simultaneously introducing some surprises that keep us coming back. If there ever is a successor to this series, I can only hope it can come close to what Go Go Power Rangers has achieved. “

COMIC PREVIEW – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Issue 3

On Wednesday, February 5th,  Mighty Morphin Power Rangers / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Issue 3 will be released from Boom Studios. Below you will find a preview of the issue as well as the main cover and variants.

Rita Repulsa faces off against Shredder for control of the weapon that will change the Power Rangers forever! No matter who wins, the world will never be the same! As the two villains battle, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers must find a way to storm the Foot Clan base to save Tommy, as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles step up to help their new allies in an unexpected way.

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“Continuing the cliffhanger from Issue 2, Shredder in his new Green Ranger armor faces off against Rita Repulsa. Rita wants the Dragon Coin returned to her, accusing Shredder of corrupting its power. And that’s only the first couple pages of this issue.

Issue three is a solid mid point for this 5-issue miniseries. The teams are formed for both good and evil in a natural way, with motivations that make sense. The issue also reveals more depth to the early childhood of Tommy Oliver, something the show rarely touched on.

“More depth” has been the recurring highlight of BOOM! Studios entire run of Power Rangers comics, exploring the lives of the teenagers with attitude outside of what viewers have seen in the show. While some may argue there is too much focus on Tommy, I think that is a disservice to all the writing that has been devoted to other characters in the comics.

For this crossover, we also discover more about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, already adding to the more than 30 years fans have grown up with them.

I won’t give away the ending, but it cements how much fun this miniseries is, playing with concepts we could only dream of as children. If you’re not reading this issue, be sure to pick it up along with the reprints for Issues 1 and 2 that release on the same day!”

COMIC PREVIEW – Go Go Power Rangers 28

On January 29th, Boom Studios releases Go Go Power Rangers Issue 28, the second of two GGPR issues coming out this month and the fourth week of six straight weeks of Power Rangers comics.

Before RITA REPULSA was the Power Ranger’s enemy she was imprisoned in a dumpster on the moon, serving time for her widespread reign of terror. Within the confines of her cell, Rita is forced to confront her sins, by experiencing the lives of those she has affected…

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

A couple weeks ago I speculated that with the end of Necessary Evil, Go Go Power Rangers might end or take a new direction. This week’s news that the book is ending, gives this issue more significance.

In Go Go Power Rangers 28, we take a break from the main story to focus on Rita Repulsa and her minions. In issue 24 the comic explored Bulk and Skull’s characters in a similar fashion. In my opinion, this is what Go Go Power Ranger’s has done best. We get to explore the motivations of characters by taking a look into their past.

With this issue, we get a glimpse of Rita’s imprisonment inside the Space Dumpster for over 10,000 years. I won’t give anything away, but the story is based on a trope used many times in science fiction stories. That’s not to say this issue is lessened by that trope, because the implications of what Rita goes through in this issue and what she does when she is released are staggering. You will realize how deep her evil runs and how irredeemable she is.

With four issues left, why focus on Rita Repulsa now? She has not been a part of Necessary Evil. I think this sets up a reintroduction of her character after almost a year of absence. Could the solicitations referral of [SPOILER] be… the return of Rita?”
