COMIC PREVIEW – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 44

This Wednesday, October 30th, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 44 will be released from Boom Studios. Below you will find a preview of the issue as well as the main cover and variants.

NECESSARY EVIL continues as the Omega Rangers return to Earth and meet the Power Rangers for the first time! But if they want to defeat Lord Zedd together, Jason, Trini and Zack will have to keep their identities a secret from their friends! Features the first appearance of the Omega Ranger Zords!

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 44 kicks into high gear when the Omega Rangers come to the rescue of the Power Rangers of Earth. The tables are quickly turned on Dayne in one of the most intense Zord sequences of the comic to date.

While we don’t have a concrete end time for the conclusion of this arc, it seems we are starting to reach the climax of Necessary Evil. With the Omega Rangers meeting the Earth team for the first time, the mystery still remains on their identities. Tensions arise on both Ranger Teams that will have long lasting impacts for the rest of the arc.

The writing is, as always, tight from Ryan Parrott with more snappy dialogue and in-jokes. The art is very kinetic and detailed, as always, and we can’t get enough of Daniele Di Nicuolo’s style. Particularly in this issue, Walter Baiamonte’s colors shine… literally with brilliant lens flares on Earth to the dark and cooler tones of space and the moon.

The conclusion sets up a battle that, personally, I have been waiting for.”

COMIC PREVIEW – Go Go Power Rangers Issue 23

This Wednesday, September 11th,  Go Go Power Rangers Issue 23 will be released from Boom Studios. Below you will find a preview of the issue as well as the main cover and variants.

As the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers struggle to save Angel Grove from the fearsome War Bunny without Jason, the Blue Emissary forces the Red Ranger to confront surprising villains from his Shattered Grid past and shocking Necessary Evil future—kicking off the events that will result in the creation of a brand new team with a secret mission to save the galaxy—the Omega Rangers!

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“When the cover for this issue was first previewed a couple months back, it created quite the stir in Ranger Nation. Was Drakkon really returning? Would he suddenly become the main focus of the comic again? Thankfully, this issue puts that concern to rest.

There is no doubt that last year’s Shattered Grid event continues to impact the Power Ranger’s multiverse. What makes this issue great is the way revelations are handled for Jason, as well as the readers.

Go Go Power Rangers walks the fine line of explaining future events we see in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers and creating a story that works as a standalone. One can easily read both series in a chronological progression, as well as reading each issue as they come out.

In this particular issue, even though we see characters introduced from the main MMPR series, there are still a few surprises that hint at the future of that comic. Teases like that can only happen if the writers have story lines planned out well in advance. Writers Ryan Parrott & Sina Grace do this in fine fashion with the last few pages of this issue.

Necessary Evil continues to deliver with intrigue, and every month I am left wanting more. Don’t miss this issue!”

COMIC PREVIEW – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 42

This Wednesday, August 28th (National Power Ranger Day), Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 42 will be released from Boom Studios. Below you will find a preview of the issue as well as the main cover and variants.

NECESSARY EVIL continues as the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers have returned—just in time to discover a secret that may tear apart the team!

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 42 is definitely a fitting tribute to release on National Power Rangers Day. Without spoiling anything, there are some unexpected, but welcome cameos.

Plot lines from Go Go Powers Rangers are referenced naturally and are a big payoff if you have read every issue to date. There is a good balance here between all of the characters. While some have taken issue with the focus of the Omega Rangers from issue 41, every character has their moment to shine while advancing the story.

The time with the Omega Rangers is well spent. We get more backstory with Omega Blue Ranger Kiya and an undercover mission that feels like something from an alien version of a James Bond movie.

The last part of the issue sets up something that most readers have been waiting for. Highly recommended!”

COMIC PREVIEW – Go Go Power Rangers Issue 22

This Wednesday, August 14th,  Go Go Power Rangers Issue 22 will be released from Boom Studios. Below you will find a preview of the issue as well as the main cover and variants.

Faced with the terrible consequences of a war they cannot remember, the Power Rangers are left to pick up the pieces of Shattered Grid, but the effect on the Morphing Grid may be more than they can handle. When put to the test, what will they choose—the world, or their team?

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

With the cliffhanger of the last issue, readers were left wondering how Go Go Power Rangers would tie into the overall arc of Necessary Evil. After last month’s release of MMPR Issue 41, we got an answer when the Blue Emissary was revealed as the Omega Rangers’ mentor.

Much like the Shattered Grid event from last year, Go Go Power Rangers serves to give context and background for the events happening in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. It’s this duality that makes reading these comics a lot of fun.

Once again writers Ryan Parrott & Sina Grace deliver snappy dialogue and emotional weight after the events of Tommy losing his Green Ranger powers. A line about an enemy mentioned in MMPR 41 becomes the main villain for this issue of Go Go. The return of another character makes things even more interesting for one of our heroes.

Go Go Power Rangers isn’t simply a companion comic, it’s essential reading.

COMIC PREVIEW – MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: SHATTERED GRID SC

Today, August 7th, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Shattered Grid SC (Softcover) will be released from Boom Studios. Below you will find preview pages of the collection as well as the main cover.

THE BIGGEST COMIC BOOK EVENT IN POWER RANGERS HISTORY COLLECTED IN ONE VOLUME!

Lord Drakkon—a twisted alternate-reality version of Tommy Oliver (AKA the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger)—and his newly reformed army are crossing dimensions in order to execute an all-out attack that threatens the very existence of every Power Ranger ever!

Collects Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25-30, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Free Comic Book Day Special, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Shattered Grid #1.

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the collection in advance and shares his review:

“What else can be said that hasn’t been already said about Shattered Grid?

For Power Rangers, it is the most ambitious story-line ever told for the franchise. The twist in Issue 25 alone was enough to drive a second printing for that issue and the next one. With cameos and team-ups spanning across the whole 25 years of Power Rangers, Shattered Grid truly felt like a celebration of the franchise.

The Soft Cover collection is nicely laid out, with a special two-page summary in the beginning. The first preview page takes art from Hendry Prasetya’s introduction of Lord Drakkon and the events of that lead to the world of the Coinless. The second preview drawn by Dan Mora, summarizes the events of Shattered Grid from Go Go Power Rangers with the Ranger Slayer.

And that is my only problem with the Softcover collection. The Go Go Power Rangers portion of Shattered Grid is not included, neither is the Shattered Grid Annual. Those will be reserved for the much larger Hardcover collection coming out in November. While I understand the logistics those additional issues would be in terms of size for a softcover, it feels like new fans will miss out on the greater context of the event.

Despite that, this collection is very nice if you want to get into the heart of the story. There’s also a 40 page cover gallery with gorgeous artwork for those that missed out on collecting those.

No matter how you read it or collect it, Shattered Grid is a must read for fans of Power Rangers both new and old.”

COMIC PREVIEW – Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 41

This Wednesday, July 24th, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 41 will be released from Boom Studios. Below you will find a preview of the issue as well as the main cover and variants.

The all new covert team of Power Rangers has been revealed – and it’s Jason, Zack, Trini, and a BRAND NEW RANGER joining them to form the OMEGA RANGERS! But who is this all-new Power Ranger? Where did they come from? And why are the Omega Rangers hiding their existence from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers?

As the secrets behind their mission – as well as their deception of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers – are revealed, a deadly new threat, summoned from the depths of space by Lord Zedd, arrives on Earth with only one mission…take out the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, once and for all!

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

After last month’s “to be continued” page reveal, I was wondering if we would get answers to this new team of Omega Rangers. Well, I am wondering no more since Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 41 completely focuses on Jason, Trini and Zack as the Omega Rangers!

At San Diego Comic Con, Boom! Studios displayed three Omega Ranger helmets ahead of this issue’s release. To see them in this issue of the comic together with the suit is really impressive. That also describes this whole issue.

We’re quickly thrown into the new universe that Jason, Trini and Zack find themselves in. New alien locations are shown, new side characters are introduced. It feels natural and a bit chaotic, but in a good way, as writer Ryan Parrott leaves us with even more questions. After reading the issue, I want to find out even more.

There are definitely a couple surprises that readers will not want to miss. I was wondering how Necessary Evil would tie into both series of the Power Ranger’s comics. Go Go Power Ranger’s Issue 21’s ending definitely informed what was going on in this issue. I like that both series play off of each other much like last year’s Shattered Grid event.

With Ryan Parrott writing for both series, the level of cohesion in the story really works for me. In addition to the Dan Mora story covers, it feels like all of pieces of the puzzle will come together by the end of this arc. I think this will keep readers guessing and wanting more.

The art from Daniele Di Nicuolo continues to impress. During Shattered Grid, he quickly became my favorite artist in the entire comic series. I was elated that he came back for Necessary Evil. For this issue in particular, the fights and morphs are filled with kinetic energy and the detail is very well done.

Colorists Walter Baiamonte and Katia Ranalli make this new alien universe vibrant and colorful, bringing to life Daniele’s fantastic artwork.

With Danye from the previous issue and the new worlds and aliens in this story, the universe of the Power Rangers continues to expand. One of the things I liked about the “Zordon Era” of the tv series was the universe building they managed to achieve. This issue expands that concept to another level and makes it a must read.

NEWS – BOOM! Studios Announces Power Rangers: Shattered Grid

BOOM! Studios, in partnership with Saban Brands, announces POWER RANGERS: SHATTERED GRID, the first comic book event in the twenty-five-year history of the global pop-culture phenomenon. In celebration of Saban’s Power Rangers’ 25th anniversary, the epic event begins on March 21, 2018 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25, by Kyle Higgins and Daniele Di Nicuolo, featuring events so shocking that the issue will be sealed in a black polybag to prevent spoilers!

POWER RANGERS: SHATTERED GRID will unfold in issues from both Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers and include two special one-shots. Lord Drakkon—a twisted alternate-reality version of Tommy Oliver (AKA the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger)—and his newly reformed deadly army will cross dimensions in order to execute on a plan that threatens the very existence of every Power Ranger ever. For the first time in comic book history, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will join forces with some of the most popular Power Rangers teams in the franchise to face the threat.

“Call me sentimental, but I love anniversaries. Over the last two years, I’ve been weaving threads in the pages of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, all leading to the 25th anniversary of the franchise,” said Kyle Higgins. SHATTERED GRID is a massive Power Rangers event that’s both a celebration of the property and also the largest comics story I’ve ever tackled. Lord Drakkon’s plan is so much bigger than our Rangers, our world, and even our universe. The Grid is shattering, every Power Ranger in all of existence is at risk, and it’s going to take more than just the Mighty Morphin team to stand against Drakkon’s armies.”

“The key to incorporating Go Go Power Rangers into SHATTERED GRID was making the story integral to the event while never losing the personal stakes of the series—and we are doing that in a really exciting way,” said Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers writer Ryan Parrott, whose series joins the event in April with issue #9. “A fan-favorite Ranger from the future is going to arrive, searching for Drakkon—and end up dividing our team in a very personal way. Thematically, Go Go has always been about examining the past in order to understand the future—and there’s no clearer way of doing that than smashing them into one another in real time.”

Polybagged editions of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #25 will be shipped with six (6) main covers illustrated by Goñi Montes, randomly assorted in equal quantities, featuring Drakkon holding one of the Mighty Morphin Power Ranger helmets. Montes helped launch the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic series from BOOM! Studios with a series of iconic covers on issue #0. A special chase variant by Montes will also be available and mixed in randomly within the polybagged editions. This landmark issue will also feature variants (shipping without polybags) by superstar artist Humberto Ramos (Amazing Spider-Man), Jordan Gibson (Howard the Duck), and a stunning wraparound cover featuring every Power Ranger ever by Scott Koblish (Deadpool).
