COMIC REVIEW – Power Rangers Issue 10

On Wednesday, August 18th, Power Rangers Issue 10 will be released from Boom Studios. Our exclusive first look of this issue was shown last month.

POWER RANGERS #10 – Yale, the Omega Rangers’ alien companion, embarks on a solo mission to protect a group of kids from the terrors of Safehaven. Guided by the voice of the Blue Emissary, Yale will travel closer to his destiny… but what does this mean for the Omega Rangers?

Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:

“Much like Mighty Morphin issue 10, Power Rangers issue 10 is a milestone issue focusing on the origins of a key character while informing future arcs of the story. The focus is entirely on Yale this go around. Yale has been the companion of the Omega Rangers since the start of the new Power Rangers series.

In the first issue of Power Rangers, it was implied that the Omega Rangers let out Yale because he was no longer empowered. However, in this issue we get a flashback to the events of Necessary Evil where we see Kiya release Yale from confinement. We also see other key points in Yale’s life that let us know the troubles he has endured which also reference other past issues of the comic.

Since Yale does not speak, most of this is narrated by the spirit of the Blue Emissary and feels like a closing chapter for that character. The other side of the issue focuses on some of the children of Safehaven we’ve seen before. How the two stories combine and what happens to elevate Yale to his ‘destiny’ is really brilliant. The writing team of both Ryan Parrott and newcomer to the franchise, Rachel Wagner, makes for a strong outing that makes me wish we didn’t have to wait another month.

Artist Moisés Hidalgo takes over the duties of illustrating from Francesco Mortarino for this issue, continuing his Yale focused pages from issue 9. It’s a nice visual continuity that makes Yale’s journey feel like a bedtime story. The soft lines and shading really work the the colors of Raúl Angulo to achieve that look.

There’s not much more to say without spoiling the issue, so definitely pick this one up when it drops next week!”
